The Phishers Are Honing Their Craft—
Be Aware Of The Latest Scam
In the past few issues of this newsletter, we have included articles about the latest internet scams, phishing and pharming. In the past few months, those internet scammers have gotten savvy and have concocted a new scam, targeting credit union members directly. This dangerous new phishing scam involves an e-mail that appears to be sent from NCUA, the National Credit Union Administration and CUNA, the Credit Union National Association. The e-mails include official looking graphics and e-mail addresses as well as
links to realistic looking websites. However, these e-mails, sent to credit union members, are a scam geared to steal your personal information. Never
update your personal information on this e-mail or through any e-mail address. Our national associations would never contact you directly to receive information--they would contact us first! If you need to update your account information, you need to speak with us directly. Never respond to any e-mails that request your credit union credit information, username, password, pin number, or other personal identity information. |
