| Serving Georgia Methodist Credit Union Members |
Dear Member of United Methodist FCU:
We have some exciting news about your credit union! In September 2004, your credit union
contacted us at Georgia United Methodist FCU about uniting with our credit union. We were very
interested in the idea. After doing our research and due diligence, we realized that this would
be a very positive move for the members of both credit unions. Furthermore, we contacted the
three bishops of the conferences involved, and they were supportive of the proposal.
Your credit union, formed by the ministers in the United Methodist Conference in
1969, currently serves ministers, employees and members of the United Methodist Churches
in the United Methodist Conference. You currently have 1,460 members and $5.8
million in assets. Georgia United Methodist Federal Credit Union was formed in 1960 by the ministers
in the North and South Georgia Conferences of the United Methodist Church. We serve
ministers, employees and members of the United Methodist Churches in the North and South
Georgia Conferences. We have 2,693 members and $12.8 million in assets. By combining the
two credit unions, we will have over 4,100 members and $18.6 million in assets.
We believe this will create one credit union that is stronger than both original parts. Best of all,
we are still serving the United Methodist Church members of North Georgia, South Georgia
and .
Currently, our board is made up of seven members. With the uniting of our two credit unions,
we will have a nine-member board. Two of the UMCU board members will be joining
our board. We will also continue to operate the current office located in Lakeland, ,
inside the United Methodist Building.
And of course, we will still maintain our federal insurance through the National Credit Union
Administration, a U.S. Government Agency – Your savings federally insured to $100,000.
We welcome you to our credit union family and look forward to the new opportunities and
challenges that will come with uniting our two credit unions.
So on March 1, 2005, we become Georgia United Methodist Federal Credit Union.
We are excited about providing financial services for United Methodists in and
Georgia. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Renea Hazelbaker, branch manager, at
